How To Use An Apostrophe

Today for writing Miki and I collaborated to complete this DLO. We were learning about when use an apostrophe and what they mean. Then We made a DLO that shows what an apostrophes is and I wrote some examples on when to use them. I learnt that apostrophes are used for 2 ways . I had fun doing learning about Apostrophe.

The Man Made World - Labeling

Today for reading our group Pakatoaa and Ponui have worked together to complete this task. We labeled a book which is called The Man Made World. Both groups collaborate and communicated to complete labeling this book. There are a lot of things in this book that we have labeled. We made sure that we have put the right label in the right place. I have fun doing this activity  because we learnt some new words while doing this activity. 

Math Challenge

Today for Maths Mr Wong. We continued doing Mr Wong's challenge. This time I have different questions.  I also did the subtraction questions. This has challenged me a lot and fun at the same time. This challenge is fun because you can use different strategy's.

Why Is The Panmure Bridge Was Built

Panmure bridge was built to help people get across the Tamaki river.  In 1835 before
the bridge was built a punt was used. To be able to cross you will need to pay 3 pennies
which is 3 cents. The punt was not able to be used in bad weather. So the petition was
signed to build a bridge.

First Panmure Bridge was built between 1864 to 1865. It designed by WR Collets. The
first Panmure bridge was not strong and could not carry heavy things. It was made with
kauri trees and tortara trees.

The second Panmure bridge was built in 1916. This Bridge was also a beam bridge and
was built with kauri tree and iron. The iron came from the Sydney Australia because in
New Zealand they didn’t have lots of iron

In 1957 the third Panmure bridge was made and was made with concrete and iron.
This was build for easy access to go from Panmure to Pakuranga. This bridge was
176 metres long and 6 metre wide.

This is the history of the Panmure bridge and why we need to have a bridges.
There are some mistakes that people made while building the bridge. Because of the
mistakes. The improvements they made, we are able to still use the bridge that was
made in 1957.

This week we have been writing an explanation about, Why Is The Panmure Bridge Was Built. This explanation shows a lot of information about the Panmure Bridge history. I learnt a lot of things during this topic. I have enjoyed learning and writing about, Why Is The Panmure Bridge Was Built.

Duffy Assembly - Michel Mulipola

Today, it was a Duffy assembly. Our class went to the hall to listen to Michel Mulipola. He explains a lot of things like, his job, and what he does at his spare time. He is a really talented comic illustrator. He showed us some of his drawings and the drawings the he drew for wrestlers, school journals and different types of super hero's. Michel Mulipola is not just a comic illustrator. He is a wrestler and a semi - gamer. He also told us a tip. Using your face as a guide to draw a proper face and easy. We have enjoyed listening to him. 

Hipposandal DLO

This DLO shows you the parts of a hippo sandal. It is also labeled. We read a book about horse shoe and answered some questions about it. I learnt a lot from this activity.

How To Make A Hangi

How To Make A Hangi

A Hangi is a Traditional Maori earth oven. To cook a Hangi it takes 3 to 5 hours to cook. You can also make this dish on special occasions like Celebrating birthdays or a Christmas dinner.

Firstly, stack up the woods and burn the stack of wood so it can heat up the iron which helps the food cook. Then say a karakia to bless the environment, people, and the food. You need to use volcanic rocks because if you use normal rocks it’ll explode.

After burning the wood, dig up a hole which can fit the basket that has the food in it and transfer the iron or volcanic rocks into the pit. The iron will be placed at the very bottom. Put the wet cabbage leaves to create the steam. Put the basket filled with stuffing, chicken, pork, beef, and vegetables into the pit.

Then place the wet sacs onto the side of the pit so that the dirt won’t fall in. Put the tarpaulin on top of the food. Cover the tarpaulin with dirt so that the steam won’t come out. Wait about 3 to 5 hours until the food gets cooked.

After waiting for 3 to 5 hours remove the dirt, tarpaulin and wet sacs. Then carefully take out the basket filled with foods. This shows how the Maori people cook Hangi. A Hangi is usually prepared by  woman and the men cooks.

Today for writing we wrote about how to make a Hangi. This writing explains on how to make a Hangi step by step. We first watch a video explaining how to make a Hangi. I learnt a lot from doing this. I learnt that woman prepares  the Hangi and the men cooks the Hangi. I really enjoyed doing this writing.
